Helloooo runner! Happy Friday. Excited to bring you another batch of running inspiration. Relatable content, sunnies, and more.
Before we get started, I was wondering what age group is most represented among the 6k (!!!) RunLetters readers. Letβs find out β¬οΈ
π°οΈ My age group:
Just genuinely curious!
Now, letβs get inspired to run ‡οΈ

πΉ Watchlist: Running a 10K in Kenya
What is it like to run a 10K in Kenya as a non-elite?
Hard. Yeahβ¦ I guess youβre as unsurprised as I am. Iβve seen footage of what itβs like running in Iten, training with Kenyaβs runners. Mind that I am not writing βtop runnersβ because in Kenya the average level isΒ so damn high. They have plenty of βnon-eliteβ runners who would kick European elitesβ butts (depending on the race).
This race displays that pretty clearly, especially given the course elevation.
In the video, Ryan Thomson, a 2:15 marathoner from Scotland, takes us along to a local 10K on Kenyan trails, giving us a nice behind-the-scenes. No fancy editing here, but just a fun watch for the weekend!

Any Bridget Jonesβ fans here?
Iβm putting my hand up πββοΈ
Donβt blame me, Iβm from the 90s. But even if you donβt like Bridget Jones, I urge you to give Emilyβs account a chance.
Itβs absolutely not all about running, but there are quite a few running-related posts on there. However, all her content is great, and thatβs why I had to feature Emily. Her personality isnβt βIβm a runnerβ. Itβs βI like 500 things, have 20 projects, and hey, I like to run.β
And I love that about her. While running plays a big role, itβs anything but her entire identity. She creates a balance by showing who she truly is and all the pivots sheβs made in her past.
Worth a follow. Iβm sure her videos will make you smile.

π Events & Races: Surf City (Half) Marathon
If youβre looking for a race early next year, something to train for this autumn, then Iβve got one for you. The Surf City Marathon.
The race takes place in the iconic city of Huntington Beach, which is, youβve guessed it, well known for its surf. The entire course runs along the water.

Itβs a very flat and fast race, perfect for scoring a Boston Qualifying time. Many runners manage to get a new PB here. Since the race is in early February, the weather is usually quite cool, and thereβs very little wind. Ideal circumstances to give it your all.
Iβve checked the reviews, and there are a few things consistently mentioned:
the lively, vibrant atmosphere
how the race starts to βSurfinβ USAβ by the Beach Boys (now thatβs something else!)
the medal design is apparently pretty awesome
the logistics are rated good: not chaotic, plenty of parking, lots of volunteers, airports nearby if you come from further away and are making a trip out of it
One consideration: the full-marathon course looks a bit boring and repetitive. So Iβd go for the half.

π½ Gear & Gadgets: Protect yoβ eyes!
Last year, during their Black Friday sale, I decided to get myself some SunGod sunglasses. I love their designs, and they had an insane 1 + 1 deal. I still wear these sunglasses today and honestly love them. Besides the great looks, theyβve got a really good lifetime guarantee.
If your sunglasses have been sliding off your nose or if youβve been going out destroying your retinas because you havenβt been wearing anything to protect yourself from UV, then you should get some SunGods too.
AND LUCKY YOU! Because theyβve got another 1 + 1 free campaign going on.
In case youβre wondering: Iβve got the Sierras.
SunGod = quality, and not too expensive when theyβve got a deal like this. So go get yourself some sunnies.

β¨ Wild Card: Reminder To Have Fun
You know those videos of dogs running around in circles in a living room or field of grass, top speed, crazy eyes, pure happiness?
Thatβs basically this video.
A perfect reminder not to take running so seriously and, above all, have fun.
P.S. Sometimes they also run 15 million KMs. You know. Why not. See here.

π The Finish Line
Thank you for reading another edition of RunLetters. 68 editions in, and we are 6,000+ readers strong.
Thatβs mental. And I love it.
