So much happened in the running world this past week(end). It felt like everyone and their best friend was running some race last Saturday or Sunday. Crazy finish lines, muddy trails, and perfect conditions for some (like for me, in Lisbon πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ).

Let’s gooooo ‡️

Okay, the thumbnail is very deceiving. But still, this is a fun one. Tyler Speers is a pretty passionate runner. His YouTube style somewhat resembles that of the famous Ryan Trahan. But all his videos are about, you guessed it, running.

I wouldn’t call this video inspiring or mind blowing, but it is definitely entertaining. An easy watch. A good one for a little work break!

Tyler also filmed his very first marathon. If you are training for your first marathon, I’d give that one a watch instead!

πŸ“² Social Spotlight: Scott Traer

When it comes to male running content creators, it can sometimes be hard to find ones who are not elite but still make genuinely good content. And who are not just trying to show off their crazy calves or ripped chests. They are out there. Just harder to find.

But Scott Traer? He’s got it. A great runner (he has won many races and set multiple records), a coach, and someone with a big dose of self humor/sarcasm. He’s also Callie Vinson’s partner (who I featured in one of the earlier editions of RunLetters). Their content together is probably the best of all.

Whether you are into road or trail running, I’d 10/10 recommend giving Scott a follow.

πŸ—“ Events & Races: Run a Race in Iceland

Iceland has been on my bucket list for… forever. Its rugged terrain, the glaciers, the hot springs, and the waterfalls. It is one of those places you just have to visit at some point in your life. Wouldn’t you agree?

If so, I have good news for you. You can combine a visit to the country with a race in its capital. Race distance will not be an excuse, because you can run a 3K, 10K, half marathon, or full marathon. All take place on the same day.

And it is one of the best days to be in Reykjavik anyway, because the Reykjavik Culture Night (MenningarnΓ³tt) takes place that same day. An art festival with theatre, music, fine arts, and food happening all over the city.

The race takes place on August 22nd. A perfect moment to start or end a summer trip. Race in the morning. Explore Iceland the rest of the week. And on top of that, it’s a date where almost no other (big) races are happening.

🎽 Gear & Gadgets: Anti-Blister Socks For Your Next Race

With race season in full swing, I thought I’d share the anti-blister socks that I personally swear by. There are a lot of sock brands out there, and many of them do a good job.

Most of them even have much more aesthetically pleasing designs than Runderwear. But when it comes to a long race, these are the socks I know I can grab and feel secure with. These are the ones that make me think, β€œNo blister is going to get to me today.” They’re double-layered, so it’s almost like you’re wearing 2-socks-in-1. And that works.

If you often struggle with blisters (or you just really want to avoid them on your next race), I recommend getting a pair of these.

And with this link, you’ll get 15% off.

✨ Wild Card: Your Ultimate Trail Adventure

If you live in the UK, France, Germany or Spain, and you like trail running, this is a great opportunity for you ‡️

🏁 The Finish Line

A lot of other things happened over the last 7 days. The LA finish line was madness (as was what happened prior to the finish, see here), Jacob Kiplimo ran a new world record in the half marathon (go to 1:12:00 to see the final bit) and the Paris half marathon had no cups/bottles at the aid stations. Transgrancanaria also took place. Oh, and… I ran a half-marathon PB! Still buzzing.
